Being 3

I suggested in an earlier post that you probably know ways of "bypassing" the head and dropping into the heart.

How about music? Have you ever experienced a song that seemed to go right to your heart? It happens fairly often (though not enough) with me.

How about a movie? Have you ever experienced getting caught up in a moving, where it seem to transport you to a deep place? It happens occassionally with me (though not enough).

I am always looking for inspiration. Most recently, a new song by Dashboard Confessional ("Don't Wait") really did it for me. The music and some of the lyrics (not all) went straight to my heart. There is a line in the chorus that states: "...you are deep enough to lay your armour down." Of course, it was sang with intense emotion, and those particular words meant something profound to me (I am almost certain the song writer did not mean it how I took it).

Do you relate at all to the experience and see any connection with the heart, as opposed to our rational abilities?

The author is talking about the heart. What words does he use to describe the heart? Does he give any practical advice on how to drop in?

So, you have some experience with dropping into the heart, relatively quickly with music. You know what if feels like and some of what goes on there from those experiences. Jesus did not have an ipod or a DVD, so he used other methods to live from the heart. Any sense of what were some of his methods?

Rational abilities

When you do experience a song that goes to the heart. Do you notice how it is a different experience than thinking and knowledge?

Make note of that! There is a difference between the head and the heart, between knowing and being. Jesus wants to transform our being. There is a mind part, too (be conformed in our mind; love God with all our mind), but do not make the mistake of equating knowledge with being. Correct thinking/doctrine by itself and $1.39 will buy you a gatoraide.

Jesus had some tough things to say about being "hearers" (knowing) but not "doers" (living our lives from the heart).

He also talked about having "ears to hear." We need to learn to listen with the ears of our heart.
