I did what you said and practiced. After i read that last post decided i should probably go have a MUG time...so i did a drop in time and then read my bible.
The drop in time wasnt the best one i have had...but i havnt really done one since sunday night...but it was still good...i needed it...after that i opened up my bible to John 17...i only read 1-5....but thats becuase i thought verse three was really cool...cuase its very ture...all i want in my life really is to know God...im sure that comes with a lot of other stuff...but knowing him is really the basic thing i want...and im not talking about a head knowledge type of thing...i mean like knowing him on the heart level and having a relationship with him so that(as it says in verse one..) i can bring glory to him...
this may leave us stuck again...but that little time i just had really helped and i deffinatly need to start having them more often...

No, on the contrary, it gives us something to talk about!
You said it "wasn't the best one" meaning what?
What did you learn about yourself during this time? Did you sense His presense? What was that like? Did this time affect you after it was over? Did anything get in the way?
You can join us tonight if you want. 8:00 PM at my house.
Wow! I thought you said it wasn't one of your best? You must have had some really powerful MUG times in the past or you are not giving God enough credit for what He did do during your time.
You learned something very important about how your mind works. It is prone to distraction. If it distracts you when you are intentionally trying to calm it, imagine how it distracts you when you are going about your day to day life. Other Christians through the ages have learned to "shove back the wild animals" as C. S. Lewis called them. Through training, you can learn to not let them be so distracting. Put not without practice.
You learned that time helps. How much time did you spend?
You learned some things about how you have been living lately and what an alternative might be. Which one do you think might be life in the kingdom of heaven now? How you have been living or the alternative?
You learned that if you make an effort, you can drop down into your heart and sense God's presence.
You learned something about your heart - pride, and what you are being called to - humility.
Wow again! All that from one MUG time?!?!
You actually learned this by experience, not just words in the head. Awesome!
The Holy Spirit at work! God is good!
Now, do it again, but make some adjustments. Perhaps in how much time or what you do during that time. For example, what did you do to try and not be so distracted with your thoughts? You can try it again and see if you make more progress, or you can try a different method.
Cool.
Awesome! Way to drop in and listen. You can learn to live your life where you have moments like that throughout the day. God is present and close. As you move about your day, you are moving in Him. But you need to improve your sensitivity. That is where your MUG times come in. They are times of intentionally meeting with God and learning to become aware of His movement and "voice." This will allow you to be more sensitive to His movement and voice and your life unfolds, moment by moment. As you sense you have losing touch, that is the cue to have another MUG time. That is what Jesus did.
Thomas Kelly said: "Continously renewed immediacy is the base of religious living, not the receding memory of the divine touch."
Being aware of God's presence on a moment by moment basis is where it is at, not waiting for the next spiritual "event."
Try doing your MUG times semi-regularly. Ideally, the Spirit will let you know when it is time. Kind of like He did with Jesus. That is what you are learning to do as his disciple.
