Last night at IHOP at 12:30 in the morning, a couple of us discussed what plans were on the table for youth. Here is our assessment.
Plan A: Continue to do what we did last year, only better with the resources of a budget and full-time youth pastor; chance it will happen: < 10%
Plan B: Let the youth go traditional and build beds on the side; Assessment: not sure how you do this. It would be like keeping the flannel board to play with but not using it in the lesson anymore.
Plan C: Go underground; There seems to be some support for this plan, at least from the anarchists in the group.
Plan D: Give the new youth pastor the benefit of the doubt, be flexible, and see how things shape up over time; Rejected: too reasonable an approach for the group last night
Plan E: Go all out with the attraction model and have the reunited Led Zeppelin come lead worship; so far this has broad support.

interesting...i still dont understand why this is such a hard descion...true you have been doing youth for a lot longer than i have so you probably know what will come of doing it those different ways...but i dont see why plan b wouldnt work...i mean the youth doesnt have to go 100% "traditional"...there can be a few changes...but then the bunk beds(or at least something like it...or maybe more that one something like it)...should still happen...it doesnt have to be "on the side"...it doesnt have to be the only thing though..i think we all generally agree that that is why we lost a bunch of kids last year...now i know its not about numbers..and thats not what i am trying to say...but what good is it if only a few who you expect to stay and do the beds(or whatever it may be) stay...and then everyone else doesnt participate...are you just going to teach the same kids the same thing all over again? what happened to reaching everyone?...and what happened to expanding our horizons for those who want to do something else and learn something different?...i know there is a lot to be learned from the bunk beds...but i dont really think you can learn evrything or experience everything you should if you are truly walking with Christ...i may be wrong though...
I will have to answer with another post because I write too much.
