Father and Son Shoulder to Shoulder

What a great picture. Father and son working together on a bed for a poor family they don't even know. Mark, the one on the right, has a chronic illness and he believes he has just months to live. Mark trained with me about 12 years ago. We lost contact with each other for years. We recently had lunch together and he told me his story that included death, addiction, dispair, impoverishness, and isolation. I didn't know what to say ... except "Do you want to help us build bunk beds for poor kids?"

With the time he has left, we wants to help us build beds. He has been helping us weekly for the past month or so when he feels well enough. His dad learned of what he was doing and he joined us last week. It was perfect, as my dad was in town and help us as well. I can't tell you the sense of community that has been in this project.

Pray for Mark that he might enter the kingdom and live in it now in the time he has left. Pray that we can love him like God does and speak words from the Father to him. Since he has lost most of what he had, he has no bed and sleeps on the couch. As his health fails him, he will need a bed. It is fitting that we build that bed together with him. We are compelled to do that for him.

We are learning from Mark. Grace and Peace to you, Mark.
