Simplicity III

Does being simple mean not being busy doing things? If Jesus' life is an example of simplicity, I wonder if that is not the case. He seemed to be about his business. He was on a mission and his preaching and the crowds probably kept him fairly busy. He did get away on a semi-regular basis; however, many times it was at night. I wonder when he slept.

The definitions of simplicity that seem to fit with his ministry are unpretentious, single, and uncluttered. He simplified his life by shedding things that allowed him to have a single desire. He interacted with people in an unpretentious way. What you saw is what you got. He did not kiss up to the religious authorities or the powerful elite. But he was busy. Busy with the things that were single in focus.

There may be value in arranging life so that things and events do not muddle a single-minded focus on the kingdom. It seems that that would require some examination of what are those things and events that muddle our focus – third soil stuff.

Hmmm…
