What about...

What if God had compassion on someone and impressed on an attentive follower's heart to show compassion in a tangible way to that person, would that action be discounted if that person did not also evangelize?

Is that not evangelism to you? What are your intentions for your compassionate act, just to follow God, to love others, or to be a good person, or something else? On the other hand, why can't something good just be something good, with no motive or agenda other than God is good, so we are good to others. I would like to talk about this with you more.

Ben, you ask many of the same questions I am asking.

I use the term "evangelize" to mean saying words to persuade another to believe. I come from a tradition that tends put a high priority on saying certain words, often over good deeds. Your tradition, I am guessing, probably come at it from the other direction.

For me, I needed to just learn to love others through my actions. I have come to think that love is primary and stands on its own. I do think, however, that one can also speak words of life and light. I am wrestling with how to do this right.
