Thawing Out

Jesus was brilliant. At 30 years of age he discovered that living a life dedicated to preserving the ego was not happening. He discovered freedom and a new way of living based on letting go of the ego and living for the other. Not the path that our culture supports.

So, it is possible to build beds to get cold kids off the floor without compassion. Still a good thing to do, but not much of a means of spiritual formation. Let’s not let ourselves be that lazy, though. We need to move from building beds to practicing compassion. This will require us to be intentional, each and every time we get together. We must focus more on the other, put ourselves in their shoes, and drop in (from our heads to our hearts).

Contemplation and action. We must learn how to do this. We must practice both, this week. Then maybe we would have something to talk about.
