Cool thing from Mark

Mark 8:4-5
"His disciples answered. 'But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?' 'How many loaves do you have?' Jesus asked.

Simple verse right? but if you think about it in a "metophorical"(sp?) way....cuase i know you like metaphors....no matter how much God has given you...whether it be just enough...or plenty....he can use what ever you have and transform it into something that can reach and bless thousands...now i know this has pretty much nothing to do with spiritual fitness...i just thought it was cool...that Jesus could take 7 loaves of bread...and feed thousands of people...and to top it off...have leftovers! i bet those were the best left overs in that ever existed....and the funny thing is that i have probably read this stroy hundreds or times...well..at least more than once...and i just now noticed that...its amazing...

Hey guys:
Aaron, you never answered Zack. Do you mind if he joins in? It is your call. We can keep this site a one on one thing or invite a FEW of the chosen.

Your metaphor sounds good. It even sounds good enough to make a sermon about to preach in most any church. Is it true?

Go back to the passage. What is the real focus here? What really went on in that lonely place? It has everything to do with spiritual fitness. If we want to be like Jesus, we have to understand what went on. What triggered the whole thing?

NOTE: Do not neglect the black letters! They often hold the key!

I was looking at 6:34, but is says a similar thing in 8:2.

Jesus felt compassion for them, both because they were hungry and because they spiritually needy. So what did he do? He taught them (6:34) and fed them.

What does this have to do with spiritual fitness? Knowing, being, and doing: He felt compassion. He was in the moment enough to sense their need. He was able to see the situation from their perspective, he was in the mode of self-forgetfullness. He tapped into feelings of love and compassion. He was not distracted. That is being.

He taught them and fed them. That is doing.

If you just focus on the miracle, then you become like many in the crowds that went out to see John and Jesus: curious, not necessarily spiritually hungry. If you want to be like Jesus, you have to learn to not only know things, but be and do, like he was able.

You know a lot and are learning. Are you spiritual eyes and ears open as you move through your life? Are you aware in the moment enough to sense the need and feel compassion? Are you brave enough to actually do something about it?

Try it out in the next day or two and post something about it.

We will have to keep talking about this over time. Life is unfolding around you at all times. If you want to experience it fully, you have to be present in the moment.
More later,I am on the blackberry.
