I am in Austin today. Tonight I was out running, listening to a podcast from an old spiritual guy and heard a succinct articulation of what I have been trying to say. I wish I had heard this three nights ago, it would have saved me some writing! In context, he was talking about becoming like Jesus in showing exceptional love and mercy and suggested that we can't do it alone. He said:
"Until you step out to do it, no help is on the way. But once you step out to do it, the help is already there. Do you want to be the child of your Father? You can do it but you will have to do it where you are."
Wow! That is what I was trying to say, only I used many more words!
It is nice when someone else who is spiritual confirms something you had been thinking. We may both be wrong, but maybe not.
So I am going to start building beds for Crystal's four kids. And while I do, I am going to do so knowing that my heart is not where it needs to be. I am going to do it prayerfully, asking God to help me love them like he does. And I am going to pay attention during the whole process, looking for the movement of God in and around me.
And I want to do it in a community of others who want to do the same thing.
